As I have said for my reviews of noirs in the past, I love the subgenre, but the storytelling itself can become a bit repetitive. That makes it all the better when you come across something a bit different, and this is one of those movies. The movie starts off with a long shot of the building that George Stroud works for before he sneaks around, avoiding to be seen, before it goes into a flashback telling the audience how he got into the mess he is in. I would also easily describe this as a workplace noir, which is the main reason why I would consider this something different. I also love that the audience knows things that neither the killer or the victim is completely aware of. It’s more of a mystery for Stroud than it is for the viewer. It’s sort of like an episode of Columbo, where the viewer knows who the killer is, and the main story is watching the character put the pieces of the puzzle together and figure out who the killer is himself. Wonder if this movie was an inspiration for Columbo.
